OSU Field Oceanography
CompletedPlanned route: 22 segments · ~27 hours steaming · 21 stations
Operating area: Central Oregon Coast
Route: San Diego (California) - United States → San Diego (California) - United States
Project aboard
The cruise is designed to be a student-focused field course to give students experiences on a variety of oceanographic field techniques. We will carry out hydro graphic surveys with CTD rosette, net tows with PI-supplied nets, and benthic sampling (multi-core, box-core and gravity core) with OSU's coring facility equipment. Because of transport logistics and costs, the cruise is typically focused on the central-northern Oregon margin offshore form Newport. This is a required course for OSU ocean science students and the dates are critical because they correspond to the Spring Break for the university.
