Project aboard
We are planning a reconnaissance survey of the Quest and Terra Nova Shipwreck Sites to collect ultra-high resolution imaging data and produce photogrammetric models. Quest is located off the coast of Labrador, in Canadian waters and Terra Nova is located off the coast of Greenland in Danish waters. We will use the R/V Atlantis, HOV Alvin, and ROV Falcon to complete an archaeological inspection of the sites, assess their state of preservation, study the oceanographic and environmental context of the sites, including the benthic ecology of the wrecks as artificial reefs. Project sponsors/partners are with the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. Their collaborator, who will serve as Chief Scientist, is David Mearns, a chartered marine scientist and oceanographer who specializes in deep-water search and recovery operations, including the discovery and analysis of historic shipwrecks.
