Project aboard

This cruise is an integral part of SIO145 (Field Methods in Biological Oceanography) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The student cruise will offer junior and senior undergraduates in Marine Biology a rare hands- on opportunity to work at sea, which is an integral part of SIO 145, a lab course. Students will gain a better understanding of how to use oceanographic sampling equipment and conduct oceanographic field research. In addition, cruises on the Sproul will provide students with an opportunity to collect data and samples that are needed to develop quarter-long lab projects. At sea, students will be introduced to common oceanographic sampling equipment (CTD, bongo tow, Isaacs-Kidd Midwater Trawl).
