MABSWOT CPIES Rescue

The purpose of this cruise is to recover two current and pressure sensor equipped inverted echo sounders (CPIESs) that were deployed on the continental slope in and near the Gulf Stream east of Cape Hatteras. These instruments were part of an array of in situ instruments deployed within a swath that was sampled twice per day by the new surface water and ocean topography (SWOT) satellite during its 90-day calibration/validation period. Six CPIESs were deployed in January 2023. Four of these were recovered in June 2024 and the remaining two need be recovered before their auto-release dates (May 17 & 20, 2025 for P3 and P6, respectively).
