Project aboard

As part of the ONR-sponsored New England Seamount Experiment, eight Ocean Bottom Recorders (OBXs) deployed by John Kemp of WHOI need to be recovered via acoustic releases, data downloaded, batteries charged and redeployed on the Atlantis II Seamount. These OBXs record seismic and acoustic signals from electronic sources deployed by SIO and WHOI as well as noise from ships of opportunity passing by. These acoustic and seismic signals are generated by acoustic tomography sources deployed by SIO as well as WHOI. These signals interact with the intervening ocean structure including the Gulf Stream as well as the seafloor and slope of the Atlantis II Seamounts.
